CityFibre, the UK’s largest alternative network provider, has invested a further £20 million to expand the full fibre network in Cambridge. This is great news for businesses and homes in Cambridgeshire who can now access gigabit speed internet connectivity for the very first time.

The full fibre roll-out, due to be completed by 2021, replaces the outdated copper lines that are currently in the city. Full fibre delivers speeds of up to 1Gb/s (1000Mb/s), around 20x the estimated average UK download speeds. It enables businesses in Cambridge to operate on a global scale with seamless connectivity while ensuring residents get the best speeds for everyday browsing, downloading and gaming.

According to economic consultancy, Regeneris, fibre connectivity in Cambridgeshire will likely see a £26m boost to innovation, and £117m to the industry. Cambridge is home to a high density of tech hubs. Around 4,000 businesses are within 200m of the CityFibre’s next-generation infrastructure. It means businesses benefit from a simple and quick switching and on-boarding process.
