In March the M12 team were fortunate enough to go away on a company ski trip to Morzine in France. Throughout 2016 we had been working towards a number of departmental targets and when these were met and exceeded, our MD Andrew announced a ski trip! Some of the team had skied or boarded before, others hadn’t and others had no intention to! When March finally came around, we were all very excited. Here are a few snippets from our Finance team, to let you know a little of their experiences.

Jade_Sue_Sylvia_M12_Ski“As a non-skier I perhaps wasn’t as enthusiastic about a company skiing trip to Morzine as the experienced skiers and boarders. How wrong I was! It was great fun watching the beginners having their lessons on the nursery slopes, and the old hands throwing themselves off the side of the mountain. However, the biggest revelation for me was the walking – spectacular scenery, and perfect silence and stillness in the sunshine; we started to feel sorry for the skiers and boarders who were too busy to enjoy it. I think Lac de Montriond was the highlight – a beautiful frozen lake with sheer cliffs rising from one side. We walked around it, fortified at one end by hot chocolate and at the other by lunch! The evenings were devoted to refuelling, swapping stories and team bonding (or at least that’s all we are admitting to publicly!)  Thank you so much, Andrew, for an amazing five days.”

“I had taken a couple of skiing lessons prior to our departure and was booked on the lessons with my fellow skiing newbies and was really looking forward to getting out on the slopes. An hour and a half into our first lesson I decided that skiing really wasn’t for me and I joined the walking team! We had a great time exploring the mountains and watching Jade play in the virgin snow! The town of Morzine was a little treasure trove of interesting shops to wander around and buy some lovely chocolate to take home. We are all so lucky to have had the opportunity to share such an amazing experience in a beautiful place.”

Jo_Morzine_M12_Ski“I was extremely nervous at the prospect of skiing, knowing I wasn’t going to be a natural…more like Bambi on ice! The ski lessons I took before leaving for Morzine confirmed this and I feared for my life and those around me! I persevered though and kitted out with all the gear, I took to the slopes for more lessons. I was worried I wasn’t improving much and after losing control on several occasions and having some epic falls it confirmed for me this was harder than it looked. With others around me quitting I struggled on and finally gained a little confidence and even tackled the chair lifts! I was so proud of myself that I had managed to ski and even more pleased that I had no broken bones and had not killed one of the many children on the slopes who were making it look like child’s play! The views from the top of the mountain were breathtaking and blessed with good weather, I managed more days of skiing with a little help from my colleagues helping me up when I tumbled. I started to enjoy parts of the skiing and was very impressed with all the other skiers and snowboarders, especially seeing them whizzing around and hearing of their crazy tricks.

Lac_De_Mondrian_M12_Ski_TripIt was great to walk around the town and relax back at the hotel in the evenings and catch up with everyone, swapping stories and photos. It was a holiday I could never have imagined myself taking but now I know I can stay upright on two skis for a little bit I will no doubt be talked into more family holidays skiing. It was an excellent break away and a brilliant way to let our hair down and get to know our colleagues better. We saw how well we all got on and worked together as a team looking out for each other.”
