Last Saturday 3rd September on a bright sunny morning, our little team (myself, my sister Zoe, my niece Rubi and my best friend Becky aka #thegorgeousgirlies) participated in the ‘Memory Walk’ in London. The ‘Memory Walks’ are scheduled events across the UK, and are in aid of the Alzheimer’s Society, all to raise awareness and hopefully in the future have a world without Dementia. My sister and I lost our grandmother to Alzheimer’s. We have seen first-hand the devastating effects as the disease takes hold, but also the struggle to gain help, assistance and even diagnosis of the condition. 225,000 people each year develop dementia, and more research needs to take place to try and create a cure.
The 7k event started at 11am in Potters Field Park, and was attended and supported by a huge number of people. The weather was perfect, for which we were very thankful. Our route took us first across Tower Bridge to the North bank of the River Thames, past the Tower of London, and St Pauls. We then headed across the Millennium bridge to the iconic Tate Modern, and then all along the South Bank passing the Globe Theatre, Borough Market, The Shard, and City Hall with the finish line at Tower Bridge. Some fabulous sights en-route in our stunning capital city. The atmosphere was amazing, and with so much extra support from members of the public. Definitely a morning where memories were created, loved ones that we have lost were remembered, plus awareness and funds raised for this very worthwhile cause. Together, so far, we have raised £370, which we are so grateful for and that will also make a huge difference.
A huge thank you to all that supported and donated to our team. Our donation page is still open so if you would like to donate it’s not too late 🙂
